(The bladder pushes the uterus up a bit, so it’s easier to find.) I waited until a bathroom visit sounded pretty darn good, and then told Dan it was time to look for baby. He followed a kind of grid search pattern at first, when we had no idea where the heartbeat was, but once we found it the first time it was much easier to find it again (thus, the Sharpie hearts.) I wasn’t patient enough to hold still long enough to look for myself, so I made my husband do it.Either way, mostly on your back seems to be the way to go. I had a few pillows to prop me up and that worked fine other women had luck with a pillow under their hips. It maybe goes without saying, but lie down on your back for the search.Other women found theirs higher, but for most of us, before 12 weeks our uterus is still pretty much beneath the pubic bone. As you can see, we found the heartbeats both times realllly low – right above my pubic bone.We had to push it in firmly before the doppler would work consistently.
